IMPLICATIONS OF THE 2015 ECA SULPHUR REGULATION IN NORTH EUROPE AND BALTIC SEA

Dear Valuable Customer,

From 1st January 2015, new EU environmental legislation will take effect which will ensure lowering of maximum allowed sulphur content  in ships fuel from the current limit of 1% to 0,1%.

The New requirements will have significant positive effects on the environment and and health in the new recognized Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA).

Toxic Sulphur emissions will be reduced by 90%.

Sea Connect vessels operate in SECA area and therefore new regulations will have direct impact on the type of fuel that we can use.

Sea Connect has to switch from Intermediate Fuel Oil(IFO LS) to Marine Gasoil (MGO) in order to commit with New regulations and ensure reduction of sulphur content.

The price difference between two types of fuel is abt USD 350 per tonn ,so we will see an increase of fuel costs of approximately 50% as from 2015.

As you can see such operational cost increase driven by New Regulations has to directly translate into freight rates agreed.

Unfortunately it is beyond our control and we have to declare as from 1st of January 2015 eur 75,-per teu SECA surcharge.

We asure our Customers that we will strictly follow New Legal requirements and sea transport, which is already most environmentally friendly transport mode will attract even more cargoes from our highly polluted roads

Thanks for your conitious support.
